Our addiction to the burning of fossil fuels is so bad that in our finacial world we categorize Oil as Energy....when we look at the finacial channels like CNBC, Bloomberg, CNN etc we see the lists pass by....Precious metals....Energy....and under the category Energy we find oil and gas prices.....

What is wrong with us? Oil or Gas is NOT energy; it is a resource and it is getting a more and more precious resource every day we continue using it to feed our energy greeds.

Oil is a resource we can choose to use as a raw material to produce durable goods; or we can burn it to extract the erergy from it in the form of heat and disipate the emissions into environment after less than a second of use. The later is the most stupid thing to do....but this stupidity will automatically come to an end because the stuff will simply become too expensive to burn....

When there is a shortage of oil in the market for sure those bidders who want to use the stuff to produce durable goods are willing to pay the highest price....and automatically those who want to burn it will walk away empty handed because they won't be able to afford the price anymore.

The problem now is that we have made our whole worlds' economy dependent on the stuff and when this "life-blood" of oil becomes short..our economies start collapsing...

Solutions to the problems are plentifull; but you will only be able to see them when you become energy literate....and the only way to become energy literate is by learning the "characters" by which energy numbers can be quantified....

Becoming energy literate is extremely easy....if you want to become literate in english you have to lean 26 letters of the alfabeth and a few thousand words...a tough job to do; but billions of people have been able to do that ....if you want to become literate in Chinese you have to learn thousands of characters and thousands of sound combinations a seemingly incredible difficult task to master......but more than a billion people have masterd it.  To become energy literate you only need to know one Character....and that character is J of Joule and some prefixes like k for thousand, M for Million and G for Billion and with those for letters you will be able to understand and compare energy numbers......an incredibly SIMPLE task....

But of course learning in what unit energy is described is not enough! also we need all energy consuming devices and energy generating devices and energy storing devices to be described with this simple unit of energy....

This is a task we are working on....it's called the Joule Standard....

Once we have learned that to run a car on fuel cost us 5MJ of fuel per km and the same can be done with an electric car for 0.5 MJ per km....we will know what car we need to buy in the future...

The 5MJ of fuel for each km can be saved to produce the plas oaptop computer which is for sure more durable than a 1km movement of your car.....

5 years from now for sure OIL will not appear on the financial news anymore under the category Energy.....by than it will appear under the catecory..."Precious Resources"
